What makes an absorber good?

     The first criteria is how well the absorbers transfer and eliminate vibration The absorber must also function with as many different devices as possible The base of the device should not be a significant factor, however the absorber should be an aesthetically pleasing part of the device Alto-Extremo's absorbers are optimized to produce the most natural sound possible They are equipped with a dampening or absorbing component, either a damper ring or Delrin Thanks to the damper ring, Lyd absorbers can also be used for a variety of purposes

Which Alto-Extremo absorbers do I use for which purposes?
     The Lyd I absorber works perfectly with all devices, speakers and racks The Lyd II absorber is ideal for CD players, turntables, power amplifiers and integrated amplifiers as well as speakers Alto-Extremo's Exact MK II absorber works best with CD players and pre-amplifiers, as well as with integrated amplifiers and power conditioner The Fat-Boy MK II absorber is the specialized product for problematic basses or if you would like to improve the sound quality of your CD player, pre-amplifier or tube device
Alto-Extremo Lyd I

"My next recommendation came as the greatest personal surprise of the year I've tried several different types of cones over the years and written them off as not being for me But when approached by the Lotus Group to try the very different products from Sound Mechanics, I was curious Unlike those cones of the past, the MC88 footers and C100 cones are more about resonance tuning than coupling or decoupling The MC88 is made from wood and the C100s are metal Both are said to be filled with 10 types of metallic sands Not only that, each piece in the set of three seems to be filled with a different mix (you can see the difference through a clear window) That gives each footer a different resonant frequency/signature The MC88 doesn't sound like the C100 as you would expect Neither do they effect all components in the same way These are tuning devices after all Some experimentation is mandatory


However, their easily demonstrable effect means that evaluating their performance with a component is easier than you would think Tuning an entire system can be accomplished in an afternoon or two After a little experimentation, I achieved a level of bass body and definition, soundstage coherence and overall focus that left me flabbergasted Clearly Sound Mechanics is on to something and I can't recommend these devices more highly"

The MC88 is actually made from wood (black wood in this case but the company makes cones from several varieties), a material I'd never experimented with before And it's not solid wood at that The MC88 is filled with what are said to be 10 types of metallic sands Each footer in the set is filled with a different mix, clearly visible through a little window at the top of the cone"

Theoretically, this means that each cone has different damping characteristics and will therefore attack a different set of frequencies as they dissipate different spectrums of energy This is about tuning As the best system tuners can tell you, there's no one-size-fits-all solution What effect the MC88 and C100 cones will have can't be absolutely predicted any more than one can predict what wires or cables -- or CD player for that matter -- will best suit your system As I moved the cones from component to component, their effects varied in terms of magnitude or even sonic transformation, though I'm told that with a larger sampling of gear, trends do appear

Plating
To complete the SWO-ULTIMO series, the manufacturing process is started from foundation coating The material which was punched out as a part is polished by hand piece by piece after machined barrel-polishing

The plating of the SWO-ULTIMO series was determined to provide a range of "flavors" or variations A combination of silver and rhodium is for SWO-DX-U, 24K gold plating is for SWO-GX-U and a combination of 24K gold and palladium is for SWO-XXX-U
