This page provides product information on
USB DAC's, which provide playback of music files on your PC/Mac Desktop, Labtop or Netbook as a Music Server. This is accomplished
through your
computers
USB Port/Interface
connecting to your Home Audio System. USB DAC's convert the digital stream to Analog.
There's a lot of confusion and mis-information in the
Audio marketplace regarding USB DAC Manufactures that
claim they can provide playback of Hi Resolution files!
A large number of USB DAC's that offer USB/SPDIF (Coax & Optical)
input can in fact play the high Res Audio but only from
a CD Player or CD Transport that offers playback of Hi
Res 24/96 or 24/192 CD's! What's important to look at is
the hardware inside a USB DAC. Example: CMedia (CM) manufactures
receiving Chips for USB Audio, their CM 108 Chip only
provides playback of 16 bit 44.1/48 files!
HRT's Music Streamers II, II+ and
Pro models USB only DAC's do in fact provide
24/96 Hi Res files playback. Please
feel free to contact me with any your questions on how to
build a Music Server etc and USB DAC's. Thank you.

This
DAC uses the CS8416 digital chip for the optical and S/PDIF inputs which
supports bit depths up to 24bit and sampling rates up to 192KHz when
connected via an optical or coaxial digital cable. The CM-108 USB
receiving chip is used for the USB input, which supports up to
16bit/48KHz. When fed via USB, the DataStream is converted directly to
I2S, which allows for the lowest jitter possible in this particular
design. Using the excellent CM-108 receiving chip, this USB 2 input
directly converts and feeds the data stream into the high performance
BB/TI PCM1796 DAC chip in the superior I2S format (avoiding any needless
jitter inducing conversion into SPDIF).
The DAC chip used is the very well regarded BB/TI PCM1796 which also
supports 24bit/192KHz decoding.
Two piece aluminum enclosure keeps the power transformer and
accompanying circuitry apart from the DAC circuitry. This allows these
two sections to be well isolated from each other and contributes to the
DAC's low level of self noise and clarity of sound.
Please note: USB Interface supports
16-bit 44.1Khz/48Khz Sampling Rates!

Sonicweld Diverter Receives 2009 PFO Brutus Award!
Andy Schaub reports on the computer based audio system, we
helped him put together Andy Schaub, Positive Feedback, Issue 49
"With the Diverter I was easily carried out of my listening room
and into the venue, or for that matter, wherever the music took
me! My speakers disappeared more than they have in the past and
the staging was much more enveloping." John Brazier, Positive
Feedback, Issue 48

"This is as close to analog as I have heard from a computer and
makes me spend way too much time exploring my music files than
ever before. Gee… thanks guys! At $1299. this is a no-brainer."
Dave Clark, Positive Feedback, Issue 47
(P)review of the Diverter from Dave Clark at Positive Feedback
is up!
We are proud to introduce the Sonicweld Diverter USB to SPDIF
converter.
Sonicweld is well known in the high end audio business as
producers of some of (if not, "THE") the finest active
loudspeakers on the planet. He has collaborated with some of the
top digital audio companies today, including working very
closely with DEQX on their newest processor. Josh's expertise in
high speed digital design is also well known outside the audio
industry as he is the "go to guy" for complicated and/or stalled
military and medical projects. Simply put, he succeeds where
other have failed, many times taking over a stalled project and
getting it finished in months, where it had been previously been
languishing for years.
The products Sonicweld produces are not only marvels of
engineering and industrial design, but all of their products are
of reference quality. Those who know me, know that I use the
Sonicweld Pulserod system as my reference when I am designing
anything new as it is an amazing tool for comparing minute
differences among parts. The only "downside" to Sonicweld's
products is that they are quite expensive, for example, the
Pulserod system currently lists for $100,000. It is worth every
penny, but I have been thinking for years that it would be nice
to get him to design some "real world" products, that many more
audio lovers could afford to purchase and increase their
enjoyment of recorded music.
So, recently, we began working more closely on a few items that
are not only cutting edge, meticulously designed, of flawless
manufacture, and best of all, these products will be affordable
and still made here right in the USA. The product below is the
first device to come from our
efforts.
Sonicweld Diverter USB to SPDIF converter. This is one of a very
few select USB to SPDIF devices that can pass bit perfect 24/96
files via USB. The other devices on the market that can pass
24/96 over USB either require a special driver to be installed,
or rely on licensed technology, this product is different. This
device needs no special drivers (uses the native drivers in your
OS) or software and does not rely on licensed technology. This
is a unique and elegant solution that will allow computer audio
aficionados to get one step closer to the live music experience.
Even if one has no need for the ability to listen to 24/96
high resolution music files (although you owe it to yourself to
do so...), this device will enhance your experience with
'regular' 16/44.1 CD quality files due to the precision
reclocking circuit which dramatically reduces deterministic
jitter, as well as ultra low noise power supply and the advanced
high speed digital design techniques and PCB layout employed
which help reduce random jitter.
A great deal of time and attention has been paid to the power
supply circuit, allowing the Diverter to draw power directly
from the USB bus, while still realizing the benefits of an
external power supply. Elegant PCB design making extensive use
of SMD parts and high speed digital design techniques,
aggressive common and differential mode filtering and unique
ultra low-noise power regulation circuits, allows this device to
have an astonishingly low noise floor when powered by the
convenient USB bus power, which is already (and always) present.
No longer needed, desired, or wanted, is the ubiquitous
external, noisy and unwieldy "wall wart" (or "floor wart") of
unknown quality and manufacturing tolerance!
If you already own a high end DAC and desire to get the
highest level of fidelity available from computer audio, you
need this device. The Diverter supports the most common digital
recording and high resolution formats; 44.1kHz, 48kHz, and 96kHz
resolution in either 16 or 24 bit depths.

"Blue Moon Award winner 2007, this one for heart-warming tube
sound extruded from a cold-running Tripath-based amp: the
KingRex T20."
"It's a totally different world - a world in which only tube
heads would find unalloyed happiness and swear unconditional
loyalty. The sheer fact that this cold-running Tripath amp
manages to exude such heart-warming musicality warrants my most
deeply felt salutations. Tube amps, eat your valves out.
Congratulations on a job well done, KingRex". |

KingRex T20 AMP has more power compare with the original T-AMP
with the loudspeakers of average sensitivity (86~90dB, 4~8Ohms).
You can easily reach levels comparable to vivid performances in
medium space as 6moons review~ The pace of the KingRex T20 AMP
was more relaxed, stretching out on a more expansive, deeper set
soundstage. This valve bloom syndrome was not masking any
definition or instrument placement but rather enhancing them in
a more musical way. |

Reviews:

July 2007
"The KingRex T20U is basically the same as the Tripath-based T20
integrated amp but with an onboard USB interface and DAC. The
heart of the T20U DAC is the Burr-Brown PCM2702E".
I"I
have given my highest commendation to the KingRex T20 by
honoring it with the Blue Moon Award for heart-warming tube
sound from a cold-running Class-T amp. The T20U is the same amp,
only more truthful to the category of integrated amp by offering
a second input via its USB interface. If you fancy listening to
music from your computer and upgrading your listening pleasure,
simply think of the T20U as the best $245 USB DAC money can buy
- and the award-winning Tripath amp comes with it gratis."
|
The Kingrex T20U amplifier with the TA2020 chipset has some
additional power which allows for more flexibility when choosing
loudspeakers. You can easily reach acceptable volume levels
comparable to live performances in medium spaces with
loudspeaker sensitivity as low as 86db. Sound is very well
articulated and the sound stage is wide, representing a lot of
space around the instruments and vocals. The frequency range is
also very precise from the right down to the lows. The excellent
build quality, finish of the amp and PSU is immediately apparent
as well.
The T20U includes an integrated DAC for USB input that uses the
Burr-Brown OPA2604AP for low pass filter and Texas Instruments'
low-noise JFET-input TL072CP as a DC servo . The op-amps are
socketed which makes them easy to swap out or replace.
Included is an AC/DC universal auto-switching type adapter that
adapts to worldwide voltages (100 to 240v). DC output ranges
from 12.17v to to 12.37v.
Also included is a User Guide & Manufacturer's 1-year Limited
Warranty. |

KingRex Pre-Amp |
|
|
 |
 |
Reviews:
http://positive-feedback.com/Issue46/kingrex_t20.htm -John
Hoffman
"The pre-amplifier circuit is deceptively sophisticated, and the
design team should be acknowledged for their efforts. The
circuit uses 3 pairs of Burr Brown OPA627, which is a recently
developed FET op amp known for high speed and low noise levels.
A Burr Brown BUF634 op amp is used as a current booster, which
increases current gain in the circuit. The power supply uses an
8VA torodial transformer, and a pair of National LM317 voltage
regulators. The KingRex pre-amplifier has a secret weapon, which
is an input buffering circuit built from discrete components.
The Diamond Buffering Circuit is responsible for matching
incoming audio signal, and ensuring an optimal match to the
input stages of the pre-amp circuit. The KingRex pre-amp is not
a bare bones unit, and proves that high-end performance does not
automatically equate to a high-dollar price tag."
|
|
KingRex Pre-AMP has a hybrid design that improves on
conventional voltage amplifiers with discrete components and
high-performance op amps. It features two sets of line inputs
with auto-select. |
|
|
|
Appearance: |
|
The KingRex PRE-AMP shares the same aluminum faceplate, the same
volume knob and the same chassis measurement of its sibling. The
cabinet is of a rigid construction with elegantly appearance by
the size 180*138*45mm with 6mm thick aluminum face plate which
with polished sliver chrome volume control knob in the middle.
The stylish design with the tiny size will bring fun for life.
It also contributes to the touch and fell factor and is
essential for the long lasting life even in a tough environment. |
|
|
|
Key Features: |
|
About its design~ The key components include three pairs of
Burr-Brown IC: OPA627 for pre-amplification (being a new
generation FET (Difet)op amp, is recognized for its low noise
and high speed.), BUF634 for increasing and sustaining higher
output current(BUF634 is not only a high speed op amp current
booster, it also improves compatibility with power amp and
loudspeakers), OPA177 for DC servo (OPA177 makes sure the op amp
output is free of DC power, avoiding any chances of harming the
power amp and the loudspeakers. It also has another advantage.
It’s not necessary to use extra output coupling capacitors and
that improves the sonic performance a lot) On the power supply
front, KingRex PRE-AMP is equipped with an 8VA toroidal
transformer and a pair of National LM317T voltage regulators,
delivering 13V/0.3A DC current to the circuit board. The Secret
weapon by unique design- plug-in PCB, Diamond Buffer circuit,
which is a transistor-based all discrete-component buffering
circuit that fine-tunes the incoming audio signal for frequency
extension, tonal accuracy, holographic imaging and warm,
tube-like atmosphere. Diamond buffer PCB mounted on top of the
lower-deck main board through multi-pin connection. This design
is detachable. |
|
|
|
Features: |
- The Pre-Amp us designed to use two sources. Each source
is selected automatically depending on which is outputting
the signal. Switching is carried out via a high quality
relay. When using two sources ensure that the one not being
used is muted or turned off.
- Pre-Amp uses a low noise FET input OP-AMP. The
highly-regarded and expensive OPA627 is used as the main
OP-AMP, with a BUF634 increasing the current output. The
addition of a DC servo circuit enables the elimination of
sound degrading coupling capacitors, resulting in a purer
and more accurate representation of the original source.
- A built-in 'diamond buffer' stage is added at the input
to increase the dynamic range of Pre-Amp.
- High quality gold-anodized Phono input and output
sockets are used.
- To encourage the owner to experiment with his/her
preferred sound, we have designed the Pre-Amp with socketed
OP-AMPs. This allows the user to change the OP-AMPs as/when
new and better units become available.
- All this technology - including a dedicated torroidal
transformer and regulator circuitry for the PSU - is housed
in a tiny and smart looking
case.

PREference, the second-generation preamplifier from KingRex, is
a logical extension of the success story of the award-winning
Preamp. Centered around high-quality op-amp and the diamond
buffer highly praised for its musicality, a current booster has
been added to the final output of the amplifier stage to enhance
drivability. DC servo circuit has also been implemented to avoid
unwanted audio signal loss due to coupling capacitors. Volume
control is ALPS. Gain is user selectable with a choice of 7, 14,
or 20dB. The result is accurate and perfect signal
amplification, free from coloration and yet highly adaptable,
the ideal for outputting to power amplifiers. |

separate high-performance power supply unit further guarantees
an interference-free working condition. Panasonic FM
electrolytic capacitors stand on guard along critical paths with
their dedication to extremely low ESR. Both the preamp and the
PSU are housed in all-aluminum chassis. A special feature is the
sliding door on top of the preamp opening up to the optional
phonostage settings: MC/MM with high/low gain and 6
pre-resistive loads. |

After a successful run the T-150 has been refreshed with a more
potent (90WPC) & better sounding MkII version. This well priced
Tripath amplifier can power essentially any loudspeaker and
sounds great! (90wpc into 4 ohms, 45wpc into 8 ohms), great
value amplifier that is built to a very nice standard,
especially in light of the price!
