The GT40 built for enthusiasts with growing music collections on their computer hard drives It’s a high performance 24-bits/96kHz USB DAC that’s amazingly affordable at only $525 in the USA Looking to convert your LPs or other analog sources to digital? The GT40 will take you to the podium with every album you archive

The seriously-shielded audiophile-grade GT40 features a low-latency USB 2.0 audio driver that plays and records at 96 kHz A likely first for this category, the GT40 includes a built-in low-noise MM / MC Phono preamp! Record your favorite vinyl to hard disk via the USB output.

DAC IC : TA1200Q 24bit/96kHz (Max)
ADC IC : TA1100 24bit/96kHz (Max)

You can also convert any analog source to Digital by connecting the output of the device into the Input side, then sliding the switch to line! This also includes the output of your favotite Phono preamp bypassing the internal RIAA Phono input!

The ADL GT40 features L/R analog outputs, and switchable line or Phono inputs with a vivid, captivating sound that is simply unheard of in this category

The ADL GT40 (wired with Furutech’s GT2 USB cable of course!) brings Furutech’s signature sound -- smooth, detailed clarity -- to desktop systems, especially with high resolution 24-bits/96kHz files, but even 16-bit/441kHz files sound impeccable and very musical

Positive Feedback By David Robinson http://www.positive-feedback.com/Issue57/furutech.htm

"I never had a problem with switching between the two input options. The results on the HD800s really surprised me. Maybe my expectations were modest, but this little wonder made me realize immediately that I had underestimated the capabilities of the GT40. The USB input of 96/24 files was very pleasant over the HD800s: a good level of detail and transparency, regardless of whether I was listening to R.E.M., Robert Plant, or Bill Evans. What was more, the detail did not come with any glare, edge, or graininess that I've heard from lesser compact DACs in the past. It was still clear that I was listening to PCM with some recordings, but it was far less objectionable than I would have expected at this price point."

" the worst of 44.1kHz was held at bay with more adeptness than I would have thought possible at under $500. There was a richness and warmth that I had not expected with both 44.1kHz and especially 96/24 sources. These days, I spent most of my time listening to 176.4kHz/24 bit and above on the PCM side, and 1x and 2x DSD from hard drive on the DSD side (more on that very soon now), plus my new SACDs and LPs, and so I am giving the GT40 a real compliment here. I found that if I wanted to listen via headphones, and make a shift from ultra-high-resolution, I didn't have an aural train wreck to do it."

"Given the combination of line-level and USB input/output, and the quality headphone performance that I have been enjoying, I'd say that this is great solution for anyone looking for an affordable and compact 96/24 package."

“The Furutech GT40 DAC is something a bit different Have a close look at the front panel and you'll see mention of 'phono' That's right, this DAC is also an ADC and a phono stage

Even as a DAC, it's still something of a rarity in offering 24-bit/96kHz support But, at least, we can expect to see more of this, as the chipsets become available

The headphone socket and volume control (which also affects the line outputs, by the way) are nice additions But including an analogue-to-digital converter is a much less common step It makes a good deal of sense, given that USB is intrinsically a bi-directional interface and plenty of folks will have analogue recordings they may want to digitise for longevity and ease of access”

“Suddenly the midrange offered a substantially cleaner presentation and was filled with details that were previously completely obscured Much of the digital haze was lifted and I instantly began enjoying a much expanded, better defined soundstage The lower frequencies had good definition and extended into much lower registers than previously The highs benefited from a cleaner, more natural presentation

The Alpha Design Labs GT40 USB DAC with Phono Stage (by Furutech) is a masterful little device with a long list of features and strengths - all at a price of just $495 Given its build quality and performance, this is one of the best bargains I’ve come across in a long time in the audio world”

As the great jazz composer Sun Ra says, “Space is the place,” and audio enthusiasts all over the globe know that to be true. Most of us live in tight quarters and there’s little room for large, energy-inefficient components. Plus a growing number are using their computers to store and play music. But audiophiles and music lovers still want what they want, better sound and more convenience.

That’s why Furutech introduced the well-reviewed GT40 USB DAC/Analog Recorder last year. The GT40 was the stripped-down sports racer of the group and the Esprit is a faster, more luxurious GT model. It’s a compact DAC/Preamplifier that can also record and playback from hard disk in both analog and digital. It even offers a toggle switch to choose recording gain: 0dB, -6 dB, or -12dB.

The Esprit is designed around a high-performance 24-bit/192kHz Wolfson WM8716 DAC. ADC duties are covered by the Asahi Kasei AK5385B 24-bit/192kHz converter with Enhanced Dual Bit architecture at 114dB dynamic range. It also features optical, coaxial and a pair of line-level inputs for whatever home entertainment devices you’re using. The Esprit also carries both analog and optical outputs. Completely control an analog, digital or computer-based system with superior sound while recording vinyl or any other analog or digital source to hard disk! The exceptional headphone amplifier drives 32 to 600 ohm ‘phones with aplomb.

The sound is vivid, captivating, palpable and unheard of in this price category. The ADL Esprit brings Furutech’s signature smooth, detailed clarity to high-resolution 24-bit/96kHz files and 16-bit/44.1kHz files sound better and more satisfying!
